Process & Skills

How I work

I like to start by looking for inspiration in colors, textures, references, tools, and techniques that have worked for someone else and could potentially work for me when combined. Searching for inspiration is an important part of my creative process: I test brushes, try new methods, and experiment with different visual directions before deciding on something specific. I am organized when I need to be, especially when retouching photos, where I can work step by step, layer by layer, at a very steady pace.

Designing posters, drawing, or 3D modeling is a completely different process for me — much more random but still fluid. I often go back through earlier layers, undo decisions, and adjust things that looked perfect an hour earlier. My designs evolve through constant changes, refinements, and rethinking until the atmosphere feels right. This combination of structure and intuition helps me stay mindful while leaving room for discovery, serendipity, and visual surprises.

About

Portrait of Julia Masny

I am a visual artist who is interested in moments when reality becomes somewhat abstract. I like to work with simple forms, everyday objects, and human elements, and then alter them enough to change the way we perceive them. My designs often feature contrasting colors, intense shadows, and shapes.

I am inspired by small things, such as textures, colors, gestures, and the atmosphere that surrounds them. I like to observe how objects behave, how light changes, and how one detail can evoke more emotion than the whole scene. My creative process is intuitive but thoughtful: I like to experiment, change, adapt, and let the idea develop at its own pace.

Clarity, mood, and sincerity are most important to me. I strive to create visualizations that are simple and minimalistic, but clearly convey emotion, expressiveness, and my vision. Whether I'm designing, creating 3D forms, or working with film-inspired images, I try to create work that is personal and somewhat out-of-the-box.
